Army Spc. Benjamin B. Bartlett Jr.

SPC Benjamin Blake (Trey) Bartlett, Jr. was born August 10, 1981, the son of Benjamin Blake Bartlett, Sr. and Anna Ruth Lee Bartlett. He was an unexpected surprise and a treasured blessing to his family, immediate and extended. He grew up in Woodland , GA and was a member of the Woodland Baptist Church . While still a child, Trey tragically lost both his mother and his sister to illness. He graduated from Flint River Academy in 2000, and after graduation attended Auburn University and worked in construction prior to entering the United States Army in November 2005. Trey entered the service at Fort Gillem in Forest Park and was assigned to HHC 4th Brigade at Fort Bliss , Texas . In November 2006 Trey was sent to Iraq to serve as a fire support specialist with the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, operating out of Mosul , Iraq . In March, 2007 while Trey was serving in Iraq , his father became ill and required open heart surgery.  The Army allowed Trey emergency leave, during which his father, Ben, passed away. Trey returned to Iraq in April 2007 and served faithfully until he was killed on July 15, 2007 during a rocket propelled grenade attack. Trey received the National Defense Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terror Medal, the Army Service

Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon during his time of service. He was honored posthumously with the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Combat and Action Badge, and his Weapons Expert Badge. Our hearts continue to ache for the loss of our dear Trey, and are eternally grateful for his sacrificial service to his country.
