Navy Steelworker 3rd Class Emory J. Turpin

The Battalion Work

In a world too small, there is a man who has touched us all.

Always ready with a smile, he’d brighten the darkest of our days.

His word were always true, a man made of honor and courage,

He proudly served his red, white, and blue.

He is the spirit of those left behind,

Never will he escape our minds.

I’ve shared rainy nights, training fire-fights,

Marine Cpl. William G. Taylor

Cpl. William G. (Grady) Taylor or "Billy", as he was fondly known as, was KIA 11-30-05 in Al Ambar Provence, Iraq. He was with the 8th Regimental Combat Team, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines Weapons Company. He was sent home December 10th, his cousins birthday, and just 8 days before his own birthday, December 18th.  He left behind a beautiful daughter, Leah Amber, who will be 8 this summer (but he wasn't married). He took full responsibility for his daughter and saw her whenever he was home. He joined after 9-11 so he could help protect our country from this type of invasion and keep this land safe for his daughter, family and all Americans.

Before going to Camp LeJeune, he was stationed at 8th and I Marine Corp Barracks in Washington, D.C. with B-Co. He volunteered to go to Iraq; he wanted to help make a difference with a people who were oppressed and wanted freedom. He wanted to help them know what we have: freedom, schools, the right to vote, so much of what this country as a whole takes for granted.

When we went to Camp LeJeune for the service, the chaplain told us Billy kept everyone laughing; he was the company clown. He was able to do things that would have gotten anyone else thrown in the brig but not Billy! We met some of the young men that served with him and they are an awesome group of young men.

Army Cpl. Jonathan R. Ayers

Jon loved sports, played soccer growing up. Love to Ice Skate worked at the rink where the Atlanta hockey teams practiced.

Jon’s older brother Josh (by 22 months) grew up very close, but Jon loved to pester Josh, get him to hit him then Jon would come crying trying to get josh in trouble.

Jon loved to make people laugh, he had several of Jeff Foxworthy's routines down pat and could go on for 20 to 30 minutes.

In Middle school Jon played the chelo and would get to school early and stay late to practice. It paid off when he became 1st chair. That ended in High School when JROTC became his daily routine.

Side note, Jon is receiving the Silver Star as well, the ceremony will be March 29th (we planned it for the day after yours). He loved getting metals, this would have been a big deal for him.

Thank you,

Bill Ayers - Father of Cpl Jonathon R. Ayers

Army Staff Sgt. David R. Jones Sr.

SSgt David R. Jones Sr. beloved husband of Karen Jones, beloved father of David Jones Jr. and Kristina Jones. David was 45 when he was killed. He had three passions in life; his God, his family and military history. David knew just about everything about military history. He has hundreds of books and knew everyone of them. David would read cover to cover books that other people would consider research books. He remembered everything he read. I don't think there were very many times that David did not have a book and a cup of coffee close by. David was a volunteer from the Georgia Army National Guard. His "real" job was a deputy with the Richmond County Jail.

Marine Lance Cpl. Jeffrey D. Walker

My son Lance Cpl Jeffrey D. Walker was a loving son, brother and friend. But at the time of his death he was a new father. He left behind a 5 month old son, Conner. Conner was his daddy's pride and joy. He could not wait to watch him grow up, and to do the things with him that daddy's do. He was going to be a GREAT daddy. Conner is just like his daddy in so many ways, he looks like him and has his personality. I don't know what we would do without him.

Jeffrey was such a important part of our family. He was a nut, because if anyone could put a smile on your face it was him. He loved to play the drums and jam with his friends. He also liked to play pool, he and Kasey would go play pool all the time and he was really good at it. He would often impersonate Stitch from the cartoon Lilo and Stitch, Stuart from Mad TV and he was a real character. His nieces, nephew and little cousins were so close to him, and he made such a big impact on their lives.
